"is somebody gonna match my sweet?"summer cocktails & other musings
And another event for the ATL shawties on August 24th!
Y’all sold out Part 1 of my Brown Butter Summer Dinner Series! Thank you so much! I can’t wait to dine with you!
Late summer is my favorite time of the year, not just because my birthday is August 13th (y’all I’m turning 30!!!! ahhhhh) but because of the produce. Yes, the produce right now is absolutely impeccable. The watermelon stand near my home sells yellow and orange-fleshed watermelon. Peaches are as juicy as they’ll ever be. Sweet corn is bursting with flavor. And cherries are at their darkest. And ALL of these delicious fruits and vegetables’ flavors are amplified even further when roasted/grilled/caramelized/charred/smoked. But I think everything is better when it’s a little too ripe and bubbling over…which leads me to my next thought.
ATL Supper Club - Part 2
The next dinner in the supper club series is “Sweet Smoke: what the fire leaves behind” on Saturday, August 24th at 6 PM in Atlanta. Join me and 30 others for a late-summer barbecue-inspired dinner. Sweet Smoke is rich, sensual and intimate 5-course family style dinner party experience exploring the beauty of heat and what the fire leaves behind. The Maillard Reaction inspires so much of my life that I have the chemical reaction chain tattooed on my inner arm. The menu will delve into this beautiful browning process by way of caramelization, braising, smoking and direct fire.
The event has limited seating, and is sure to be a blast with great conversation, community and of course delicious food.
Can’t wait to see you there. Get your ticket here.
And another thing…
One of my cocktails from a partnership is being featured at a local Atlanta restaurant, Steak Market . But if you can’t get there to try it, I’m sharing the recipe video here.
M+P Summerthyme Peach Mule
1/2 a ripe peach, diced
0.5 ounce brown sugar syrup or 1/2 tsp brown sugar
2 sprigs of fresh thyme, one for garnish
2 oz Mercer + Prince Canadian Whisky
.5 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed
Ice
Ginger beer, to float
In a cocktail shaker, muddle ripe peaches, brown sugar and one sprig of thyme until the peaches are mostly broken down. Add Mercer + Prince Canadian Whisky, lime juice and ice. Put the cocktail shaker top on and shake vigorously for 15-30 seconds. Strain into a highball glass filled with ice and fill to the top with ginger beer. Garnish with a fresh sprig of thyme and a fresh peach slice.
